Dinner Party

Who doesn't love throwing a dinner party?
I know I sure love it!

My sisters and I LOVE to throw a good dinner party.
So we decided to occasionally do posts about "Setting the Table."

Our hope is that you get excited about having people over.
Go above and beyond to make an evening spectacular!
It is always worth it!

My fab sister Hanna belongs to a divine cooking group called the COOKIN' MAMA'S.
The recipes are out of this world, the company phenomenal,  and well, let's not forget the decorating.

I had a chance, awhile back, to attend one that my sister hosted.
And let's just say she pulled out all the stops.
She completely transformed her living space to create a perfect ambiance and setting for her Chinese themed dinner group.

Let's take a peak shall we?

Upon  entering her house we saw these...

Lil' booties to slip on our feet!

A floor table setting, perfect for the theme!

Don't forget these!
She hand made these beauties and they hung so nicely above the table!

Each place setting looked like this.

Don't you just LURVE?

Here are some more views....

Thanks for the invite.
I can't wait to throw a Chinese themed dinner party of my own!

T-Shirt Re-vamp

So I live 6 houses away from a BRAND NEW DI, and I decided I wanted to take a go at "refashioning" for my first time.
I have had this idea to make a loose fit/trendy/tank you see all the girls wearing, but TOO expensive for my taste.
So I knew I needed a shirt a couple sizes too big....(only $3 at my local DI)

So this is what I found. And forgive me, but I got a little excited last night and forgot to take pictures with each step.
I totally made it up as I went along...so I don't know if it would have helped.
BUT I LUUUUURVE, love, LURVE, the finished product.
Right now I have totally needed some shirt to disguise the growing belly underneath the clothes, which is only going to get bigger in the next 6 months.... so I think I will try to make a couple more and be slower to take pictures at each step.... for all of YOU!

My FIRST refashion!
What do you think?

WOWZER

Got this little wretched lovely at the good ole' DI for .25 whoppin' cents!
I know right?
Totally breakin' the bank!

I got out the good ole' trusty spray paint!
Man I love this stuff!
It makes everything better!
Or maybe I am just perma-high from inhaling so many fumes.
Either way.......still does wonders!

A coat later.....

.............and my project is ready for sanding!

Add some brightly colored fruit...

And you get this FAB goody!

Oh the things some spare change can do!!
Now go make something FABULOUS!

Sprucing Things Up

I get sick of things occasionally in my house.
Lots of little things in my house definitely need a "Drab to Fab" makeover.

I love this window box I built.
But it has been this color for four years now.

And paired against my curtains it drowns out in neutrals!

So I painted it this color. ( I know sigh, scream, roll over in your seat in sheer and utter shock)
Obviously I am joking.
We all know I LURVE black!

I slightly sanded the edges!

Much better!

Total Drab to Fab transformation!
Now to take down those wretched blinds!

1, 2, 3, Topiary....

I found 3 of these topiary at the DI, for a $1.50 all together.

They all had this sponged, outdated paint on the bottom, that didn't look horrid, but needed to be freshened up a bit!

Two coats of Antique White paint later, and VWAHLAH...
Fresh & Fabulous!

To add a more whimsical feel to them, I added these cute little numbered stickers.

If I had to describe my style, it would be Contemporary Trash to Treasure, with a bit of a Whimsical feel. Hahaha. Seriously though, have you ever been to a home where you are constantly worried that your kids are going to touch or break something? It's stifling! There is nothing worse than sitting straight up on a sofa, because you don't feel comfortable in your surroundings. I've made it a conscious decision in life, to have beautiful, yet fun & practical pieces.

It makes me smile, when my decor turns into a conversation piece, and I hope these sweet little, numbered topiary, do just that!

Ice Box Hutch....

I was lucky enough to inherit this beautiful hutch from my Grandma. Of coarse, it has seen better days, but I have been dreaming about this hutch since I was a little girl, and couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Did I mentioned how obsessed with hutches I am? I can't get enough of them!

Look at all of the beautiful old fixtures!

The inside was the worst, but a little TLC did the trick!

First, I gave it a good cleaning, a light sanding, and primed it.

Then I fussed over the color for about a week, but when my sister gave me this fresh yellow, called Autumn Wreath, it was love at first sight!

I kept all of the original fixtures.

I painted it Autumn Wreath on the body of the hutch, and an antique white on the doors and inside. I love the the way it turned out. The contrast of the two colors really made it pop! When all of the paint was dry, I sanded the edges for a more worn feel.

Isn't she a beaut?

I have some ideas to decorate the top with, and I can't wait to show you when I am done!

And there you have from Drab to Fa Fa FABULOUS!

Boys Room

So the boys room has been these colors for some time now.

(Sorry I took pictures while I was currently painting. SO half of the molding is torn down. But you get the general idea!)

But now it is this color!
I painted it and finished it on Christmas Eve!
I know I am crazy!
I LOVE it.

It s SERENE and CALMING now!
And can't wait to show you more.
But you may have to wait a little while.
I am still searching for the perfect bed!
And Perfect bedroom pieces.
I am going to redo the chest-of-drawers soon too!
So stay tuned!
