Jewelry Box Makeover

I love thrift store finds that are not only inexpensive but have good structure.

I found this jewelry box for $1.00.

It was a simple and easy redo.

 I washed the box well and applied two coats of white spray paint.

When the paint had dried I sanded it down to give it a shabby feel and then gave it a clear coat of spray.

And of course- the before and after!

Knick Knacks turned FAB

One of the most satisfying ways to decorate is to accessorize. After a room is finished, it is all about the little details. The pillows, the pictures on the wall, the shelves, the side tables and mirrors, and of course some lovely knick knacks.

 Those little finds can provide such a WOW impact to a room or even just add the right splash of color. 

When you go to the thrift store, keep an open mind. Pretty much anything can be spray painted or painted. So think outside of the box, peruse Pinterest for some fabulous ideas, and be creative.

Some other fun finds have included small trinket unicorns, swans, squirrels, birds (one of my favorites), and anything that would match your current home decor.

Here are some of the birds I have done recently....I can't pass a lil' bird by without considering buying it.

Spray painting a trinket is easy. 

1. Simply wipe down your find with a rag and some warm water. 

2. Make sure to choose your spray paint according to your item

(you can find specific spray paint for specific surfaces - metal, plastic, stone, etc.)

3. Spray Paint your item and let dry.

I just found this children's toy at the thrift store for  50 cents.

I decided on a metallic gold color.

EASY PEASY

A Tad Obsessed..

I am a tad  obsessed.

OKAY, maybe A LOT obsessed, with two things.

Picture frames and printables.

Can a girl really have too many? 

I can't pass up a picture frame with great structure to save my life. 

{I apologize about the before picture taken with my "dumb" phone. My camera has been on hiatus and I am starting to really want it back! Sigh.}

I scored this chunky beauty for $2.00

A little spray paint and some light sanding can turn any wretched old frame into a fun new piece.

I wish I could give credit to the maker of this printable. I found it on Pinterest but it isn't attached to a link. Isn't it the most adorable print ever?

Plastic Deer Turned Fab

 I found this plastic piggie bank deer at a thrift store for .50 cents. 

 I think the few people around me thought I was crazy when I grasped it off the shelf in a death grip smiling.  I knew exactly what I wanted it for , regardless of their dismay.

When I got home with this wretchid piece, my kids fought over whose piggy bank it would be. 

Much to their disappointment, I had to tell them "No one's."

I couldn't wait to spray paint this piece with my new favorite spray paint. 

Have you tried this?

 It is the perfect gold shade and the coverage is amazing. It also dries incredibly fast! 

I haven't had to apply a double coat on anything I have used it on yet. 

After a coat of spray paint this lil' fella was ready for his new spot in the girls room.

A perfect trinket, bracelet, and ring holder for my little girls bedroom.

Finished Gallery Wall

Should I be ashamed that it took me 9 months to finally finish my gallery wall? I mean all I had to do was fill in the frames with pictures. You would think because I am a photographer that the simple task of putting up a picture or two would have been easy, but no...I literally filled in the last picture frame this morning. And as sad as that is, I have new pictures of each child to put up again. SIGH....

It is nice to have a space for some of my obsessions- my kiddos, trees, and quotes.

Spring Fever

Does anyone else have major spring fever? 

My long lists of projects to get done, ways to decorate, foods to try, and more, are majorly on my mind! The warmer weather makes me want to get all my spray painting projects done.

First up.....this.....

I love this piece.
Anyone who knows me can tell you what a sucker I am for pots, vases, and containers!
So of course, I can't throw it out. 

So I took out this lovely shade of Krylon...(one of my favs)

I gave this vase a good coat and then sanded the edges slightly.

Next,  I filled it full of some faux grass and rocks.

It fits perfectly in my bathroom.
 I love the freshness of the green...don't you?

Now to do something about that wretched sink...hmmmm...

Bling Your Jeans

You have all seen them.... those rhinestone studded pockets of the trendy girl jeans. 

Only problem is they can cost a fortune.

Well, not anymore.

My friend Shauna let me in on a little secret. 

You can totally do it yourself with out a bedazzler.

All you need is....

A super cute pair of thrift store jeans! Found this cute pair for $4.00 for my 10 yr old.

 Loved the big stitching and they already had a diamond studded button pocket!

Some E6000. I found mine @ Walmart in the Craft section.

Some flat backed diamond accessories to bling out your jean!

 My friend said she has been doing this forever. 

That after letting it adhere for the adequate amount of time you can machine wash your jeans too! 

SCORE!

I started out by adding a role of bling right along the pocket flap...

 Then added one more role of bling for pizzaz. 

I could have done tons more...but my oldest doesn't like anything "too girly" (in her words) So this amount was perfect!

 What are you waiting for? 

Go bling some jeans!

TV Hutch to Book Shelf and More

OH, I am a wretched human being.

I LURVE before and after pictures but somehow forgot to take a before picture of my old TV hutch. Let's just say she was a "sweet spirit". Her hinges sagged, her doors barely hung, the backing was gone and all her pieces were MIA. 

But I love hutches (as do all our sisters) and still knew she could be a beaut again.

I decided to try to spend zero, zilch, and not one dime on this project. So I used all old odds and ends around my house to refinish it.

Notice all the mismatching wood? Yep, that's right. Odds and Ends BABY!

My husband added 4 shelves in the hutch. I really love my books. Not only reading books but all of my photo albums too. I just hate the cluttered look of book shelves and really wanted doors, so this was perfect!

I had this old decal left over from my kitchen project!

We used two different pieces of wood for the backing.

I added some new hinges that I had left over from another project.

I really really really wanted to paint it a wasabi green or something like Ali did here, but to not spend a dime I just used some black paint I already had. And well, you all know me, I LURVE black! 

Here is the inside.......

All my books are perfectly hidden. 

There was only one problem....

I hated the bench after I moved this piece in.

So a quick touch up paint job and some new fabric... and VOILA.

I even spray painted the basket underneath too! 

 I am loving this space now!!

Plain to Dainty

So I showed you my finished window....white, more streamlined, fresh, and clean.

But I knew I needed to add a wreath or something to make it just a tad more dainty.

I kept toying around with ideas but after I saw these beauties that my sisters made, I knew I wanted to do the same.

So I found a cheap .50 cent  wreath at the thrift store.

I used pink fabric, as a base, and just wrapped my wreath up like they did with the sheet.  I decided that I loved the fabric look and just chose to add a small cluster of flowers and leave the rest of the wreath just wrapped with fabric.

I just knotted old fabric I cut from a shirt and glued it on. Then I torched the edges with a lighter to add a brown antique look.

So much better! 

Just the perfect amount of PIZZAZZ!

And it took me 15 minutes to do the whole thing.

My kind of project!
